What to expect at your cake smash photo session? Is your little one about to turn one or two or even five or six. There is no age limit on cake smashes, I have seen many of them being done for 30th and 40th and even 13th birthday, and they look fantastic.
In essence, cake smash photography is messy, fun and a very adorable way for the children to celebrate their birthdays. You pop them down on my studio floor, place a cake in front of them and sit back and watch them dig in to it.
You said sit them on the floor?
That is correct, your little one will in no doubt be picking up little pieces of cake from the floor. Let me explain further, the flooring I use is food graded and is purely for photos that is all. Before each session, I give the floor a good clean with non-toxic cleaners.
You will need to provide your own cake for the photo session. There are a couple of reasons for this. Firstly, I cannot bake haha, Secondly, my insurance does not cover me to bake for my clients. And Thirdly, due to allergies and intolerances, it is easier for the clients to get their own cake. I would suggest a cake with lots of buttercream, as they make the best pictures.
Included in your session are some decorations. Like with all my sessions, I love white. I will add the addition of some coloured balloons, either pink, blue or white and some bunting. As well as the cake stand, fake cake to start with and a couple of wooden props.
You will need to choose and buy the outfit you want your little one to wear.
When you arrive for your session, we will start with some clean photos of your little one with a wooden cake, then it is time to start getting messy with the real cake.
So that's pretty much it, I hope I have answered any questions on what to expect at your cake smash session. If you would like to know any more details, please do get in touch.
